Two Posts in One Week!

OMG! It's insane! lol Actually, my life is. Sick children, preparing for the return of Mr. Shad, house cleaning, etc. But I was tagged by KnitKat. So we'll talk about that first.

I am mildly OCD, I have to eat Oreo cookies from left to right out of the package. All of the "rows" have to be the same. My husband enjoys rearranging the cookies to piss me off, I will fix even out the rows if they aren't right.
I tap the top of soda cans before I open them. Dunno why.
My husband and I got married after about two months. We met in early November, and married in late December.
My hair wasn't cut (other than an inch here and there for maintenance purposes), colored, or styled really until I was 15. Clearly...now I change it semi-annually.
I totally hate my real name, but love my married surname.
The reason that there are so many pictures of me isn't so much that I'm a camera whore as it is that I love to take pictures. Of anything. Have you looked at my Ravelry projects? There are so many pictures. My Flickr has over 2,000 pictures.

So, I've spent my week cleaning up vomit. How's that for starters? Nolan has been

sick since Sunday. Today we haven't had any upchuck...but it's not even seven yet. Oh, I finished Somewhat Cowl...but it looked terrible. The sleeves were too big. Actually, the raglan measurement was too long. I knew it when I did it (10 inches?! You've gotta be kidding me) but I thought, hey, she's the designer...she knows what she's doing. Right? When I took my measurement for a raglan sweater awhile ago, it was 6.5", which I thought was way too small. I measured my Tree Jacket's raglan "seam" because that fit PERFECTLY...it was 6.5 inches. Go figure. FROG. It's all gone. Except that 6.5 inches. I was really depressed over it last night. The collar looked so beautiful, I had slip-stitched it into place and it had felted slightly. Oh well. It's better than never wearing the sweater.

Other than that, I've been helping a friend from Ravelry out. She is in Virginia, so I might have to visit her soon. Plus...they rollerskate!!! OMG! Have I ever told you how much I love rollerskating?

No Resolution

I decided I'm not doing resolutions this year. Why make a list of all of the things I hate about myself, only to still be just me? Maybe I improve one little thing, like taking over the finances, or doing laundry more often. In the long run...it's really not helpful to me. When something becomes a problem, I fix it. I like things that way and don't need to point out all of my faults, then stress about how I'm not keeping my resolutions. The closest thing I have, is that I refuse to cast on any new projects till all of my UFOs are either frogged or FO'ed. Which is actually more of a goal than a resolution. I just want to enjoy this year, last year really seemed to be tough, there were definite good things that happened. Ups and downs like every other year.

This year was definitely a good year knitting-wise. Though, I haven't been knitting for very long. Participated in some swaps, met up with awesome knitters, finished a lot of projects. Tried a few new things. Look at those finished objects! It makes me feel rather productive. But was I a fearless knitter? I'm sure some of you read the Knitting Daily.

How about you? Did you Knit Fearlessly?
I like to think I did, the knitters at my LYS say I'm a challenge oriented knitter, and are always impressed by the way I jump into projects.

What would you knit in 2008 if you were really the knitter you've always dreamed of being?
A shawl. Actually, several shawls, some lightweight lacy ones, maybe a simple worsted one. Functional knits. Things that I would wear more than look at. More gifts.

Here's some things to think about:

• Is there something you haven't tried because it seems Too Scary?
Hm. Not really. No shawls, not because they are "too scary", but because of my fear of becoming bored and abandoning them. So, a fear of commitment?

• Is there a technique you want to learn, or learn to do more skillfully?
Color-work. I'm not 100% pleased with the way my stranding looks.Beading? I guess. Seaming.

• Is there something that stumps you?
Um...nope. I've always been able to figure things out, even if I need help to do it.

• Is there something that you are dying to try, in your secret knitter's heart, but haven't dared because you think you're not a good enough knitter?
I guess I am a fearless knitter, I've never shied away from a pattern or project because I didn't think I could do it. However, spinning on the other hand...I want to spin enough balanced/consistent yarn to knit a sweater.

• Are you always knitting The Same Old Things, and you'd like to try something new?
For awhile it was socks, socks, socks. However, I think I've really expanded my repertoire, as it were. Even learned to crochet a bit!

• Do you always knit for others, and never for yourself? Or perhaps you only knit yourself accessories, but never a lovely cardigan or pullover to wear?
Actually, I'm a selfish knitter. Occasionally I knit for others.... I'm not sure that makes me a fearless knitter. It might be indicative of the opposite. I'm afraid that the beloved knitting will end up at the bottom of someone else's closet and go unappreciated.

So, I think I might be a fearless knitter...but my confidence in other areas is lacking. Note to self: work on being a fearless crocheter and spinner. :) I've posted random pictures of my weekend and all throughout.

Sleepless

I don't sleep well anyways, but somehow without Mr. Shad here, it is actually worse. I fell asleep on the couch at 9pm this past Saturday...and it was very strange. So, I've finally decided to write/post my list of things to look forward to.

My bed is now all mine, which means I can use his side for blocking. :)
Nobody to eat up all my sweets. Except me.
I can watch whatever I want on TV. Without interruption
Nobody complains when I don't do the dishes for 3 days in a row.
I can balance the checkbook without worrying about Mr. Shad's impulsive buying habits.
The couch is all mine!
More time to knit.
Lesley is coming to visit! Okay, she probably could have if Mr. Shad was here. But it will be less crowded this way.
I get to decorate for Christmas without Mr. ~~Scrooge~~ Shad whining about it.
Less laundry.
If I can't find the camera, it's my fault.
No scrambling to clean the house at 5 o'clock.
We're going to my parents' for Thanksgiving, which is my favorite family holiday.
Nolan is going to be an ice-cream cone for Halloween, and there is nothing anybody can say to change my mind.
Nolan will be walking soon. And talking.
No more Netflix that I don't wanna watch.
I get to buy my own Birthday, Anniversary, and Christmas presents.

Nolan has a pre-op appointment today. I think I have neglected to mention the surgery altogether on here. Makes it easier for me to ignore, and therefore not be nervous. It's not horribly invasive or anything, and will most likely just be routine. But I am a mother, which means I worry. Besides all of that, it's his eye, those things are sensitive. Also, one of the fastest healing parts of our bodies. Anyways, he's had a blocked tear duct since he was born. It happens to all babies, but it usually goes away. When it did not, the doctor said, "Well, it should clear up by the time he is one." He's one...and it's still not. So, doctor gave us a referral. It will be nice not to have people recoil from my baby when they

see his eye. Really, Nolan is such a sweetie. Oh, and Lesley, I forgot to tell you, but I scheduled his appointment for Thursday. Hopefully it will not interfere too much with our plans. He's a trooper and at the very worst it will just mean that we can't go out. :)

Over the weekend, I finished almost 3 projects. The sleeves for the Skating sweater (seen in above photo) were blocked (for procrastination reasons mostly) and are awaiting seaming. When I am good and ready. Also, Goddess and MSCS 2 are officially off the needles. Both need a good blocking. But I did take a few pictures of Goddess. It fits like a dream. Too bad there is a "seam" where the EOR was. >.< D'oh! Hopefully nobody will notice it. I'll take a picture for you guys at a later date, but for now just wanted good pictures. Showing off my mad skillz. Yo. lol Alright, that's it for now. Must go take Nolan to his appointment.

Dawdle

So, Mr. Shad ended up not leaving until yesterday morning. First the boat broke, then his plane. It was nice to spend all day Saturday with him. Especially since Friday night was kind of rotten. I will admit, I'm scared. Not just because he is going to be in a warzone, but also because I have no control over this situation and we have never been apart for more than a month or two. You guys will all be part of my support network. There are people here for me to rely on, but I have found the knit-blogging community to be FABULOUS at providing comfort and cheer in bleak times.

There will be a list of things to look forward to. But I am going to put that on my LiveJournal (link later), so that I can update it and look at it whenever I want without overloading all of your bloglines. The most important ones are a visit from Lesley! And SAFF! Both in October, and I am so excited! Lesley and I have been blog buddies forever. I ought to make a list of blog folks I wanna meet. :)

The Mad Amazonas Weave sock is done, and I am feeling a case of SSS. Maybe because I kitchenered it on Saturday in the midst of all of that stuff with Mr. Shad, so I never CO for the second one. Which I normally do right away. Also, the heel flap and cuff are a bit short for my liking, making the whole sock overall a bit short I think. It should fit better after a bit of blocking, as that always seems to relax the yarn a bit.

On Sunday, I needed a quick soothing knit, something to just get done. Somehow the

feeling of all of the anxiety with Mr. Shad's departure and all of my lingering UFOs was making me feel despondent. A chunky, quick knit was needed to soothe my soul. So, I snagged my Twinkle book, the Thick & Quick from Mom's knitting experiment, and my largest DPNs. The Flying Gloves would work beautifully. There were a few problems though. The needles I had (Size 15US) were too small! I swatched and knit a sample glove following the pattern (which was knit flat). Since it was such a fast knit (about 45 mins), I frogged the glove and started again in the round. I would provide my info, but am worried about infringing on copyrights, because really it's not that hard and if I told you I'd basically have to give you the whole pattern. The whole glove is only a total of about...14 rounds I think. The ones from the book around 12.

Also, Nolan discovered socks today. I think he likes them as much as I do. Although I don't think he really understands them. ;)

Here I Am!

No. I didn't disappear. Every day my computer works less. And I am also trying to keep busy, lest I notice Mr. Shad is not here. Since my last post I have finished My So-Called Scarf, worked 22 rows of the leg of the poor Twisted Flower sock, and received LOTS of packages! We've been to the beach, and the movies twice; but I only sat through one. I learned to play Bunco and saw Pirates of the Caribbean 3. A friend of mine is pregnant, so I get to knit more little baby hats. They're so freakin cute. :) Alright, now pictures. There won't be any links in this post though, it takes longer than I probably have to do that. The computer usually crashes about an hour after logging on, and I have already been on for about 20-30 minutes.

Wollmeise! From left to right: Rhabarber worsted, Mitternacht, and Gewitterhimmel. The camera doesn't show you how gorgeous these really are. And they smell soooo good.

Turns out I am Knitter one for one of the two pairs of Truly International socks. In this picture you see the pattern, needles, notepad (with instructions), and leftover yarn I have chosen to knit my bit. What you don't see is the yummy-licious chocolate Heidi sent with it! I had to put that up and away from little hands before I had time to take pictures.

Wow! Sunne is fantastic! This package made me SOOO happy! I've seen and fondled cashmere at my LYS, but never owned/knitted with any. Two skeins of Mongolian Cashmere in Jade, and four balls of a Cotton/Cashmere blend. And I have no idea what it is. But it's pretty and I've already found what I will make with it. :D The Craft magazine is PHENOMENAL! Seriously, I browsed through it before opening anything else, and I couldn't believe all of the awesome things in it. Thanks again Sunne! You really know me. :) What else? Some sparkly handmade tiger soap (random fact #3: My high school mascot was a tiger RAWR! Go Tigers!), a yummy smelling candle, blinging Hello Kitty stitch markers, other cute stitch markers that I had favorited on Sunne's Etsy shop, a purse made of paper bags (it appears), and some mystery thing that hasn't arrived yet?

Random Fact #4: I shave my arm hair.

Random Fact #5: Even though I own many pairs of shoes, only two pairs really get used. My sneakers and my sandals. Sneakers when it is cold, and sandals when it's hot. As a kid I only had two pairs of shoes (usually from Payless) at any given time. A pair of sneakers, and a pair of "dress" shoes. Most of the shoes I own now were bought because I had forgotten to bring a pair of dress shoes with me somewhere that I would need them.

The only thing of note that I have done is make pie. But it's damn good pie. Peanut butter. Yum. I have this friend from school, and we have the most retarded conversations. Usually it is about Hot Sox on cam (because I knit on webcam occasionally), today it was pie.

Stupid Blogger

I had a lovely post. Just wonderful. About things in spring that I love. And trying not to post too often, getting my wheel. AND BLOGGER ATE IT! Wanna know why?! Because I used an apostrophe. >:O I will update this later, when I stop being mad about spending 45 mins writing a blog and getting all of the right links for you....

Okay, I feel better now!!! Guess what?! My Wollmeise came in today! It's just so beautiful.

I want to flash it all over blogland! But I will settle for posting extensive pics here. Oh, and the last thing I was waiting on for my PRGE came in today as well. Woohoo! I can ship it off tomorrow. Could have done it today but Mr. Shad didn't wake up until 2-ish? Then I had to take him to pick up his motorcycle. It is beautiful outside.

Now I have to do the Top 8 Things I'm loving right now list, which I stole from Lesley. Obviously the family is even before me on my eternal list of things I love, so we'll just skip them and move to things that are currently making my life bliss. In no particular order:

1. My Wheel! We ordered it last night, and I realized today that I am not limited to traditional wood stain colors. I guess TV can be helpful, I saw a commercial for Minwax last night and got so excited. I'm thinking Wild Berry or Cherry Blossom,

what about you guys? At first I thought, OMG! They'll flog me at the guild if I do that! Then I realized, no, they won't. They can talk about me if they want, but it is MY wheel and I can do whatever makes me happy. Staining my wheel purple would DEFINITELY make me happy. Soooo glad I got it unfinished. :)

2. Yarn! It doesn't matter how many times I see yarn, buy yarn, knit with yarn...I love it. Every skein is beautiful and the handpainteds are each a work of art. When I get a package with yarn in the mail I light up! I've always loved to get mail (when you're bored you should all write me a letter), and to find yarn in the mail is fantastic. Even if I know I ordered it.

3. Vacation! I'm going on a vacation, with my husband, in a hotel, without my kids! The tickets have been ordered, the reservations made...and no kids! Did I mention that yet? Plus, I get to join Kristi's knitting group while I am there. Which is totally awesome. We are going to visit the Winchester Mansion, something I've been dying to do for about half my life. It really makes me happy.

4. My LYS! Aside from all of the

yarn there...the ladies are just amazing. They are all so wonderful and make for an eclectic group. Yes, we can be loud and crazy, but we help each other out and it is a wonderful network. Rhonda moved away, and Blogless Jennifer is leaving next week, they will still be a part of our little group though. Melissa has some of the coolest ideas EVER, she teaches needle-felting, breeds sheep and angora rabbits, and does a MILLION other things. Check her out.

5. Yarn! I mean MDS&W! This will be my first year and I am excited and nervous all at the same time. I really want to get a chance to meet up with some of the bloggers I know out that way, Elizabeth, Lolly, Mama-E, and maybe even Eunny? Busy year for me huh?

6. Bloggers! I know I've covered this already, but hey, it doesn't hurt to repeat it.

7. PRGE! This is too much fun! My pal is great, she doesn't even tell me I'm nuts when I ramble. lol Sunne, our ~~babysitter~~ moderator is really great. She is tough but fair, as long as you play by the rules things are good. :)

8. New Glasses! Alright, you're all going...what? Kyran broke my glasses last week so I get new ones. Getting a new look is always exciting, prove otherwise.

PRGE Questionnaire

1. How long have you been knitting/crocheting/spinning? I've been knitting for a year on March 16! So, not that long.

2. Do you consider yourself a beginner, novice or experienced yarn artist? I consider myself experimental. As in, I can knit anything I want as long as I try. But I am by no means an expert.

3. What fibers (materials) have you knit/crochet with? Hm, I've used wool, alpaca, soysilk, bamboo, cotton, novelty yarns...fakey acrylic yarns, blends

4. What are your favorite yarns? My favorite yarns (brands) Cascade 220, Mama-E's C*eye*ber Fiber, and Classic Elite Bamboo. My favorite fibers are alpaca, bamboo, and wool blends.

5. What fibers are you dying to try? I want to try hemp, linen, and angora. Yarns I'm dying to try are Koigu, Malabrigo, and Tofutsies.

6. Do you prefer solid, self striping, or handpainted yarns? Handpainted. But really, I love it all.

7. What fibers do you dislike? It's more about yarns I dislike than fibers. I mean, I don't really like acrylic...but I use it sometimes. I hate Lion Brand Homespun, Red Heart Supersaver, Fortissima Socka, Berroco Gem (and other slippery ribbon yarns), Lopi, and not really into novelty yarns.

8. What are your favorite colors? I hate to be redundant, but purple. lol Also, grey, blues/teals, brown, and green.

9. What are your least favorite colors? Yellow, orange, and white. Though I don't mind them when they are complimented well enough.

10. How did you learn to knit/crochet/spin? Taught myself to knit with a book I got on sale for $5. My LYS owner taught/is teaching me to spin.

11. What projects are you currently working on? There is always a list on my sidebar, but I'm working on a Slouchy hat, Endpaper Mitts, a sweater from Knittig Pure & Simple, and a pair of socks.

12. How old is your oldest UFO? What is it? Will it ever be finished? Currently, the Baccarat (or however you spell that) Player, affectionately referred to as "mom's top". Obviously for my mother. I hope to finish it for her birthday in July.

13. What is the most heartbreaking project that you ever frogged? That would be my husband's Thuja socks. My first FO for the year! I had them about to the part where I was going to do the toes and realized there wasn't enough yarn. So I ripped them out completely and started a toe-up version.

14. Do you prefer straight or circular needles? Circulars and DPNs. I love DPNs, seriously. Circulars are so versatile, and harder to lose too. A problem I frequently have.

15. Do you own a swift and/or a winder? I own a swift! Yay! But no ball winder yet. Am I backwards or what?

16. Where do you keep your needles? In my needle udder! Right now I have plans on a DPN/circ case for all my sock needles. Gotta have some place safe in my purse to put them.

17. Do you enjoy helpful hints about your knitting or does it just piss you off? I love it! As long as it's tactful. Something like, "You're doing that all wrong!" doesn't go over well. But most of you are nice, so I haven't had that problem.

18. What techniques are you still a virgin in (lace, cables, ect.) and are you interested in trying them? Intarsia, steeking, Ganseys, lace shawl, shadow knitting...and I'm sure there is more but my mind is blank. I'll update it if I can think of it

19. What knitting magazines do you subscribe to? I just subscribed to Interweave Knits...still waiting for my first issue. :)

20. Are there any books, needles, yarn, patterns that you are dying to get your hands on? I'd like some EZ books, this pattern, or the Kitri sock kit, Fiesta Yarns La Luz Multi in Taos (acutally Watermark would be fine too...anything but the Rayon Boucle)

21. Do you enjoy knitting socks? How big are your feet? I *heart* knitting socks!! My feet are 8" around at the ball of the foot, 9" around the arch, and 9.75" from heel to toe. I wear a size 8 shoe, but always knit the smallest size sock as my feet are narrow. Usually my sock is about 9-9.5" long...a little bit of negative ease.

24. How do you feel about sports? Uh...it's nice to watch other people do them. We're baseball fans, hubby is a Red Sox fan. Me, I just like baseball. No football at all.

25. What is your favorite season? Least favorite season? Why? Spring. It's encouraging. More colors...and I don't have to be cold all of the time.

26. What is your favorite holiday? Christmas, because it just feels so homey. I love to give someone a gift that they really, really love. It's awesome.

27. Do you like handmade gifts? Of course! I'd be silly not to.

28. Do you wear jewelry that isn't real? Sure? I mean, I don't really wear a lot of jewelry. Unless you count forgetting that I'm wearing a row counter on a string around my neck....

29. What are your favorite foods? Scents that you love? I could go on and on about food. I'm a junk food junkie. I don't really like salt though, so no chips really. Mostly cake, cookies, brownies, candies, peanut butter, pizza. I also love steak. :D And mashed potatoes. Potatoes of all sorts really. lol

Scents I love are chocolate, lavender, vanilla, honey, cinnamon, and baking bread. Okay, so maybe the last one isn't one you'd actually find anywhere, but I still love it.

30. What is your family situation? Do you live alone? Situation is a good word for it. lol I am married and have three children ages 4, 2, and 6 months.

31. Do you have any pets? Not currently.

32. What kind of music do you like? Can your computer/stereo play MP3's? Music? I love music. Seriously, I don't think I could list all of it right here, right now. My favorite bands include: Sugarcult, Kenna, Muse, Ramones, FallOut Boy, Social Distortion, Everclear, Offspring, and Green Day. There are tons more though. I assure you. 35. What do you do in real life -- besides knit and blog? I'm a SAHM, so I take care of the kids. Occasionally go hang out with friends...um...yeah. My life is not an exciting one.

36. When is your birthday? Is it a national holiday or just another day? December 9th. My husband wanted to think it was on the 7th...you know the day Pearl Harbor was bombed. Nice, huh?

37. Do you have any allergies, medical conditions or disorders that your pal should be aware of (ie. diabetes, food/pet allergies, ect.)? I'm allergic to rodents and Ajax. Also, walnuts and apples, but I eat them anyway so it's not like a life or death situation. Seasonal allergies too...yay pollen! lol Um, other than that I think I'm fine.

38. Are there any scents, phobias, or sensory thing (ie, the way certain objects feel) that your pal should be aware of? Good question. Snakes. Badly. Sensory things...I don't like sticky things. Like syrup, candy covered apples, those weird sticky hands kids get.

39. What is the most difficult thing that you have ever knit/crochet? Hm...the Harley Quinn/entrelac socks? Just because it was a new technique I suppose. Really, I don't think most of the things I knit are that difficult.

40. What is your personal style? Is there a time period/fashion movement that you take your cues from? I'm ecclectic. It's all mood based. I love the Renaissance, and the 20s, the 50s, the 60s, and 80s. Hm...yeah, I'm weird. I love bell sleeves, flared pants, bright colors, subdued colors, layering, legwarmers, socks!!, circle skirts, peasant tops, plaid...I have this crazy punk, goth, diva thing going on. lol My fashion sense used to be a lot more outrageous than this. I've chilled out a lot.

41. Anything else that you would like to say? Well that was open ended. Hm...I've got very unique taste. I'm from Maryland and excessively proud of the fact. My boys are my stars, my daughter is just like me at her age. I love to go dancing and drinking with my friends. I love a challenge (in knitting). Slight OCD...very slight. Usually only in conjunction with Oreo cookies. Very open/honest. Ask and I will answer.

Organization

Why does that look like it's spelled wrong? Oh well, let's not dwell on it.

This morning I spent enjoying the quiet morning light, with the pitter-pat of sleet (yes, I know the difference between sleet and hail, unfortunately) on the siding. It was a good morning and I revisited the Endpaper Mitts. My dear mitties, how wrong I was to ignore you! Currently, three of my WIPs fall under that "perfect yarn + perfect pattern" category I posted about previously; they are my Wicked sweater, the Endpaper Mitts, and the grey raglan. I can remember how I longingly stared at the lonely cuff of my first mitt and couldn't wait to get back to work on them while I knitted with dedication on the Hedera socks. Before I could get back to them though, there came my "involvement" with Wicked. What a sin I have commited for leaving the mitt out in my freezing cold garage!

Woops...sorry got carried away. Anyways, I decided it was time to prioritize. The Wicked SKC KAL ends in February, so that needs to be done by the end of Feb; however the Endpaper Mitts can be knit throughout the next two months. To reach my goal of Sock-A-Sweater-Two Me, I went through the patterns and gauged approximately how much progress I should make per sock, per day to complete them in a timely manner. With these things in mind, I made a list of how much I needed to knit on my projects every day. If I want to do more, that's more than fine, but I need to get at least the following done for the months of Feb and March:

Wicked - knit 1" every day

Endpaper Mitts - knit 5 rows (or half patt rep) every other day

I Dream of Africa socks - knit 1 full rep stitch patt (20 rows!) every day in Feb

Monkey socks - knit 1 rep lace patt every day in March

Any free time I come up with I can work on any of the other projects I have designated for this first color triad, but those are the main projects I'd like to complete by the end of March. I joined another KAL, Fair Isle February, to encourage my progress on the Endpaper Mitts. For some fun I stole this meme from Rhonda.

And a Happy Mew Year*

Alright, I've seen this meme floating around and I can't wait for someone to officially tag me, so I'll just do it on my own. lol Mostly because I am just, in general, a weird person.

Here are the rules:

Where shall we begin...?
1. My Feet: I wear a size 8 shoe, yet my feet are 9.75 inches long, and I always have to use the smallest sock size when knitting. My second toe is longer than my first (which according to my father makes me a serial killer....) and I have high arches.

2. Speaking of: I watch Court TV all day long. And have several times frightened people by talking about how to get away with murder. I could do it. I just hate blood.

3. My eating habits: Most everything I eat is plain. For example: I eat hamburgers, just the meat and bun, no cheese. Peanut butter sandwhiches, no jelly. You get the idea. I sprinkle granulated sugar on my pancakes and roll them up (crepe style), I don't like syrup. I rarely make a mess with sloppy joes.

4. My sleeping habits: I tend to be slightly nocturnal. My kids mostly broke me of that habit. When I sleep I have to have a blanket. And, although I can fall asleep with noise, I cannot stay asleep. In otherwords, if I leave the television on it will wake me back up.

5. My grammar: That's right, I'm a bit of a grammar/spelling Nazi. Usually, I am not too bad online. Though I have been known to find a mistake in a blog from over a year earlier and edit the post. Dictionary.com is in my favorites, just in case I'm unsure of a certain word's spelling.

6. My background: I'm uncertain of where exactly my roots are located. But if you ever want to give yourself a headache - My mom's dad married my dad's sister. This doesn't make me related to myself, or my parents related to each other. Not by blood anyway. My mom's dad isn't her biological father. Still, have fun with that.

Oops. This was supposed to be a quick post. Only I could make something so simple into a huge ordeal. lol Not only that but I forgot to upload the photo I meant to post here. Let me do that now while I tell you about it.

The only real knitting related items I got for Christmas were Knitting Vintage Socks by Nancy Bush, and a $100 gift certificate for The Tail Spinner. Now, I know that sounds like a lot of money, but it's not. Well, it is. lol But I'm going to use it all on spinning lessons. Which means that I won't be using it for yarn. The book came from my LYS owner, she's fabulous!! This book is absolutely suited to me. I really wish I hadn't let Justin take the wrapping off of The Sound of Music. Not that I don't like the movie, just that I could have returned it and used that money for something more um...Crystal-like.

Oh, I re-started the Thuja socks for Justin. This time from the toe-up. I think that when I do the second sock I'll flip the pattern so they mirror each other. Not that he's the kinda guy that will notice, but I am the kinda girl who will. Anyhow, I think that I've gotten pretty far on them, considering I just cast-on yesterday. Already 6 inches into the foot of the first sock. You know, my husband has small feet for a man. Only 10 and a quarter inches, my mom's are 10. Anyway, I hope that I do this right. I measured my row gauge (which I rarely do), so that I could figure out how many inches I needed to knit before increasing for the heel.

I got some good stuff though. Don Juan DeMarco from my mom, and Futuresex/Lovesounds from Justin. He also got me some Cheshire Cat pjs!! Hooray! I love them. Love. I'm going crazy because the shop isn't open until like the fifth of January. *sigh* I want to say thank you to Linda!! And, of course, I want to pick up a few things. Like, a skein or two of Cascade and some more of the Susan Bates Needles I am using for Thuja because doing them with only four needles is KILLING me.

Heather got her I Can Play Piano thing from my mom. Kyran was too busy playing with all of Nolan's toys to enjoy his baseball thing. lol

Beginning of the End

The year is almost over, there are only eleven days left. And since I'm here, I might as well reflect a bit. I stole this from Lolly who took it from someone else. And you can feel more than free to take it as well. I think I'd like to make it a yearly thing, seeing as how this is actually my first year knitting, it'd make for a nice review.

What is your absolute favorite project you've ever knit (one that fulfilled both process and product)?

My absolute favorite has got to be the Cheshire kitty hat. I know it's such a simple project, but I really learned a lot from it. Besides, it was the whole reason that I started knitting, and finishing it felt like the greatest thing in the world to me. Like I could walk on water. The bamboo was so beautiful to work with, the colors are fantastic, it is utterly pleasing.

Which of your handknits do you wear the most often?

My hats. I love hats, making them and wearing them. But then, I haven't made many large projects yet. We are getting there.

What was your favorite gift to knit?

By far, this has been my dad's Mancala Mia. It turned out just lovely. Knitting a gift makes me happy in general. I like to know that what I'm spending my time on will be loved and cherished. This is part of the reason the Mancala board that I made for him is so wonderful. It was a rather quick knit, and it is sentimental as well. I can't wait to hear his reaction.

Which of your handknits are gathering dust your closet?

*sigh* A lot. The Lelah top that I made while pregnant. It's acrylic and just not well suited for NC weather. As well as the newly finished Cleaves. Which were already gathering dust while waiting to be finished. Now that they are, I am just unhappy with the results.

Which of your handknits have you gotten rid of?

Hm. I ripped a couple of hats. As a matter of fact, one of the hats pictured earlier was ripped. But mostly I've been happy with the things I made. Though those Cleaves are blackballed.

If you've knit socks, what is your favorite pattern?

By far, Baudelaire. They are too beautiful. Then, of course, I loved the ones I made for my mom. Ha, maybe that should have been the answer to question number one? It was amazing to have something go from a pattern book, to my mind, to the needles. Soon they'll be on her feet! :)

What would you like to make in 2007?

Whew, do we even wanna go there? I have a list here and there is one on the side of the page. Things I already have yarn for are Tubey, Jamesey, Pomatomus, and Baby Yoda sweater. Some very fun upcoming projects are plans for an uber-cropped raglan in Alpaca Seta and figuring out how to recreate this sweater.

What have you learned about your craft in 2006?

That, I am only a beginner. As such, my addiction is only beginning to form. People will look at me strangely, but it's okay. Mistakes are alright as well. No matter how awesome a knitter may be they will make mistakes. Though I have learned how to fix almost any error I may encounter. I'm always up to learning more.

And I don't like to have people hover when I knit, though I'll talk to you about it til your ears fall off.

What events/sites have you particularly enjoyed in the blogosphere in 2006?

I've hardly been able to participate in anything. My blogging started back in April/May, and I didn't really get involved until maybe...July-ish. Though I did participate in Secret Pal 8, which was fantastic. I can't wait to be a part of all of the new KALs and other events next year! Another SP would be wonderful, I really loved it.

With that all finished, how is it that people always update their bloggies while I'm not around to read them? I finally pried DH away from WoW long enough to update for you all. We leave Maryland tomorrow, headed back home for Christmas. Our Anniversary is the 22nd, and we will probably do nothing. *sigh*

Any how, while here I finally made a trek out to a shop! Silly me, I forgot my digital cam and have no pictures. It's sad that I don't because it was really quite chic. I hopped on the metro and poked around DC alone to find Stitch DC Georgetown. Could have gone to the Capitol Hill one, as it was easiest (take the Green line straight to the Eastern Market station) but really, SE DC by myself? Not I, said the cat. Since it took me a half hour (plus my stop at Johnny Rockets to pee and eat) to get there, I decided I had to make the best of it and gawk at everything. Fondling and holding the yarns. There were plenty that I had no access to at my LYS. Seriously, I had to try very hard to NOT buy a $53 skein of Lorna's Laces Helen's Lace. It was lovely...with a free shawl pattern? And I don't even like pink! But it reminded me of the sunset and I wanted it sooo badly. Instead, all I got was a couple of balls of Organic Blue Sky Cotton. I'm thinking a sweater for Nolan.

I can't wait for Christmas...so that I can buy more yarn! Not sure what I'll end up with. My mom is the only one I really have presents left to recieve. That's okay though. My MIL bought me some great Pyrex bakeware, which I badly needed and wanted. Now I can actually cook! Yes. Justin bought me a Paradise Kiss DVD, which I would watch now if I could figure out how to get the DVD player to work here. I had almost forgotten how much I love that show. It really is one that I could just watch again and again.

*yawnSTRETCH* I'm off to try to finish my endless bamboo ankle socks (which btw I could have finished long ago but am trying to use up all of the yarn, and I turned the heels on the way to Stitch DC) and watch Forensic Files.

Whew, that was only slightly more difficult than I thought. I made almost no progress on anything yesterday. I was sick. bleh.

Right now I'm dreaming of things not knit as presents. I had planned on starting my hubby's sweater first, but I think I'll do Tubey. A little gift to myself. lol Most things being knit now, are not for me. Like, the scarf I've been working on for SP, that is now over. I promised I'd finish and I keep my word. It just sucks because I hate scarves and it took so long to get that last ball of yarn.

My fingers trace the letters of patterns yet to knit, my mind idles at the thought of another pair of gloves/mittens, and visions of yarn skeins dance in my head. Interweave Knits is calling my name. I can hear it. lol I am drooling over several patterns in the Summer 2006 issue...and the holiday gift price. $20 for a year's subscription? Doesn't sound too shabby to me. Especially since the back issues are going for $7 each. Seriously though, look at those patterns! I've got my eye on the bias corset and the Fairy Net blouse, in particular. Now, the question is, sneak in just this one back issue and pray someone buys me a subscription? Or do it myself? lol Eh, I think I'll just snag the one issue. I still feel bad about spending loads of money buying christmas presents.

The Gimmes

I love Christmas. I'm disappointed we "skip" Thanksgiving though. I love it too. Food, family, friends. It's happiness. Christmas is awesome, I love to buy things for people, and even more to make things for them! The people I love deserve lovely gifts. In this light I've made two lists (checking them once?) that I will share with you all! One is my Thank You list, the other is my I Want list. The wants list isn't really about things I want, so much as patterns I want to do. Although there are some random items on there. We'll do the thanks list first. I decided to link them over to another journal I have, because I don't wanna take up a ton of space on this page.

Alright...off to finish some more i-cord and re-full the slippers. I think I'll work on Bamboozelle next, even though Mancala Mia is next on my list. lol
